I should aim for 90 degrees Fahrenheit at head level? I have 100 Cornish cross arriving soon and 4 heat lamps. They are R40, red bulb, 250 watts each.

I start my chicks at 90°F measured at the bedding level. If you set it for 90°F measured as the air temperature, it will be far too hot at the bedding level.

There should be areas of cooler temperatures also so that the chicks can freely got to and from the heat as needed. The feed and water should be in the cooler areas.

Good luck.
