Hi folks,

I am strongly considering getting Coturnix Quail. I am building a small sheltered run under the porch, which would have a heat lamp on to keep them warm during the winter. I live in PA, is this setup likely to be warm enough for Cotournix?
Thank you in advance for your help!

I doubt the heat lamp would be necessary as long as they were protected from the wind and weather. I kept mine in the garage last year, unheated, and they were just fine. Add some straw so they can burrow in and keep warm but that's all you should need.

Um...
I really don't want to be rude, but do you have quail? Neither your BYC page nor your signature mention them...

I raised the jumbo coturnix for 2 years. Sold them all this past summer and I'm concentrating on ducks. The quail were good but the feed costs exceeded any profits.

Z,

Where are you at in PA. I just got started raising Quail as well. I have mine the an unheated gararge right now, but they are only 3 weeks old. I plan on moving them outside at 8 weeks. I live in Cambria County PA. There is a guy not far from me that leaves his quail out all winter with only a small lean to for them to hide under.

Hope you quail do well!

yea it is a small world. I live about 8 miles from Northern Cambria. I like that you called it Splanger. I still call them Splanger and Barnsboro as well. LOL
