I have 5 chicks approximately 6 weeks old. I live in central illinois and the kids are still in the low 40s at night. Is it too soon to have them in a coop with no heat lamp

if they are fully feathered and there is no draft where they Roost they should be okay. You could give them some sort of shelter box, I generally leave my mama heating pad on till they are six or seven weeks.
