Well with my new chicks growing every day they need to be let out more and more because the part of the coop i want to put them in is not ready yet ( they currently live in a kiddie pool with wire cage around it) and they need more space to roam so today i built a mini run with some wire that i found in the woods from when i was training my first batch of chickens years ago... so i pulled it out and it had to be cut so it ended up coming out in two long strips of wire. Here is the wire in the woods:

So, after about 250 mosquito bites and im sure there is now poison ivy all over me i finally got all the wire out of the woods and it came out in two 11.5' strips making the total length of the wire when lined up end to end a little over 23'. You can also see my big chickens wondering what the heck is going on!? :idunno

so then the next step was attaching the two pieces together and i used 2"x4" scraps that i had laying around.

as you can see i put the wire half way on each block and nailed them in, i did the same thing on the other half of the block with the other wire to make one long 23' fence basically. Then i took some 2"x2" and drilled holes in them so i could zip tie the run shut so they cant knock it over, i drilled a 5/16 hole in the top and bottom because its big enough to fit a zip tie trough it.

Next i nailed each one to the opposite ends of the wire and boom! put it in a circle and threw a little more wire mesh over the top so i can lay palm fronds on it to provide shade and my quick "run" is ready and tomorrow ill try it out with the little chicks and see how it goes!:woot

above is the finished product... the ending dimensions when its in this oval shape is 9' long by about 6' wide! Not the prettiest thing I've built but it'll get the job done. plus i'm also thinking about letting the big chickens out while the little ones are in here so they get used to seeing them asap, hopefully making integrating the two flocks a little easier!!! :bow

Also, i am aware this wont keep any serious predators out i'm only using this while they are under my supervision i just needed a bigger space for them to roam outside when i let them out and be safe from the big chickens while being seen.

:thumbsup I do something similar. My bigger movable pen is some plastic fencing and push in posts. Yours is a bit more sturdy than mine. I only put mine out when I can keep an eye on them too.

BTDT....it'll make you build faster after a few days of hauling chicks in and out of there. :D

finally tried it out today!!!! and they loved it, the big chickens even showed up to check them out. took a bunch of pics so here they are!
