Well I've had my new genesis plugged in and running for almost a day now and the temps just aren't right. The room temperature is a steady 73*. The incubator temp has been running around 100.5-100.9...is this bad...should I try and adjust it by taking it down a degree? Also, i filled the middle resevoir with water and the humidity is staying at 47. What am I doing wrong...I'm putting in eggs in a couple days.

Oh gosh, this is my problem.

I have been trying to adjust it and it is not complying well.

I think the temp you have is great. Mine was 102. But to be fair itdid hatch out 18 of 19 chicks (even though they were early-day 19 and 20)

Mine has been jumping all over the place since I have adjusted them. If you only have a few days I say leave it be. It takes me hours of fooling with it.

If you have an oral thermometer, shake it down and put it in. Wait at least 10 minutes to get an accurate read. I think that is more reliable that the junky one that comes with the incubator.

Do you have a still air? Forced air?

47% humidity sounds good for the first 18 days. Then add more water and lock down the bator till hatch.

eta: oops I see Genesis, I think that means it has a fan...

temp might be a smidge high, but like rustyswoman says that will mean an early hatch...

I have the thermometer right about where the top of the eggs will be and I thought I read that incubating humidity for the first 18 days was 58-60 and then up to 65 for hatching...

As for humidity, you may find a lot of people have personal preferences.

40-50% for the first 18 days then 60+% for the final three should be fine.

Sounds like you've got it placed where folks say to put it. What One Acre said is about right on humiidity...

Have you confirmed the temperature inside the incubator with a medical thermometer?

Best wishes,
Ed

Nope I'm going to put an oral thermometer in there right now..
