I have a black silver lace Wyandotte (sp?) with very tender feet. I’ve trimmed her longer nails which made no difference. I noticed the symptoms three days ago. When I palpitate her feet she doesn’t object. She can hobble but it’s clearly painful.
She’s losing weight and hiding under the coop ramp.
When I held her to analyze her feet she acted very strong, but hobbled right back under the ramp.
I didn’t see hard or dark patches on her feet (see pics).
Any advice much appreciated!

What do the tops of her feet and legs look like? The pictures shows some crud on the tops of the feet, which might be scaly leg mites or footpad dermatitis. Some of your hens appear to either be in aheavy molt or may be victims of feather picking by other hens.

Thanks for your reply
After watching some YouTube videos I figured out it’s scaly leg mites. And several of my other girls have a mild case. I’ve never had the problem before. It’s been very wet here and I didn’t put out DE like I do the rest of the year so I think the mites are flourishing.

I’ll treat them all with petrol jelly and olive oil.

As for any hen-pecked girls in photo, those are recent adoptees that had their first 9mos in hen ‘prison’ in a UC Davis research program. Poor things only had 1 sq ft and no roaming time. They’re all growing their feathers back and gaining weight now
