as a matter of fact, that is the weekend of the Amish sale in Delano (which is about 1.5 hrs from my house, so probably 1 hr 45 mins from Abrams Ranger Station).

eta: an added bonus of going to the Delano sale is that you will pass the turn-off to the Lost Sea, so you could make a little side trip to see that.

I worked at The Lost Sea back in school, and honestly, keep your money. I don't mean to sound negative, but I don't think you want to pay whatever it has gone up to this year to go see a hole in the ground without many formations and get lied to by a teenager who is making it all up because no one there knows what the real deal is. On top of that... the waterfall is fake and pumped. So is Ruby Falls. I know that one from a employee who told us that they had to turn it on before the first tour everyday. Just some inside info for you. And if you do go to The Lost Sea... DO NOT DRINK the water!!! It is pumped up from the lake and the lake gets "gone" in by people. You'll notice that the employees that aren't "green horns" don't drink anything with ice in it... only bottled stuff. Wonder why? I just told you!

OH! but you can stop by my place on your way to the Amish sale and buy a barnevelder cockrel or a BR cockrel or.... or....

lol

Hey, I'm only 10-15 minutes from the Delano sale! Common!

tnchick, how is the bantam delware and bantam barnvelder projects going. Will you have eggs from them this year. I really like the sound of them! Do the bantam barnvelders lay dark eggs like the big ones?

for reasons i won't mention, i know for a fact that the water isn't pumped out of the lake.

but, everyone is entitled to their opinion of a place, so i won't say more.

Hey, I'm just telling you what people who I have known and worked there with have always said (heck, it is in the tour training speech, if I remember correctly - "the water fountain in the gift shop is water from the lake so make sure to stop by and take a sip"). I didn't do the plumming to the place, so I'm not certain... like I said, it is what it is. I wouldn't take the chance, and I do know for a fact what has been in that lake.

just saying. I think everyone deserves to know what goes on behind the scenes everywhere, personally. Although, on the other hand, I'm sure we would never shop or eat or go out again.

The bantam barnevelders are growing way past "bantam"... so I'm not sure how I feel about that. I don't mind having the standards, but as you all probrably know... the bantams cost more. Hmmm.

The bantam Dels are comming along pretty well. I need to work with the coloration a bit more, but they are cute as can be. Not show quality, yet, but certainly cute pets!

The barnevelders (both standard and bantam) should lay dark brown eggs, but here in the US you get such emphisis on feathering that breeders literally bred egg color out. I have seen some darker brown eggs... maybe 6 or 7s but the norm would be 5 or 6s. I would tend to be more honest and call it a medium to dark brown.
