HA! That is our favorite cold morning treat. I make up a bucket full and dump it in bowls in the run. You have to dump and run though. The chickens go crazy for it and will sling it everywhere in their enthusiasm. I like it because it's good for them and it helps warm them up and get them going on these cold, cold mornings. Plus, if you get the store brand, it is a cheap treat!

Ummm... mine have been out ranging all day. They seem to be fine. Leave the run door open so they can get back in if they want to. That way they can have the best of both worlds.

I did let them out. They get up under my husband's shop in the fine dust and have a ball. I saw puffs of dust blowing out and thought his shop was on fire (for just a second). I can't stand to see them pressed up against their run wanting out, so to help combat the cold, I'm baking them a pan of cornbread and heated up the leftover beef stew we had a couple of nights ago. They'll warm up then.

Got 8 eggs today, too, so they're due a good treat.

on my flock.
Because the last 2 days my 4 eggs from 18 ladies
were frozen. does any one use these
frozen eggs and how?
I will have to try the oatmeal treat
tomorrow and see what happens.

This may sound bad but how do you tell if your eggs are frozen?

When you bring them in the house they will sweat and crack if they are frozen solid..we have had a lot of experience with it the last few days.
We eat the frozen eggs within a day or two or if we can't we just boil them up and feed them back to the chickens so they never get wasted here

They fry or boil up fine..also can be used in baking.
