Do geese just HAVE to have water to play in to be healthy/happy?
Just wondering cuz I was considering getting some later after my 2yo has more time to get bigger so they don't scare him.

There are quite a few people in my area that have chickens but I don't think any of them really get on the net much. If I ask them they look at me with a look that says, now why in the world would I want to do that?

my dad's friend came out to the farm to fish today and i got to talking with his wife about my chickens and eggs. she said she'd love to buy some, so hubby asked how much it was for 2 dozen.

me: $3 each

him: $3 an egg? (with a bit of a smile)

me: (laughing) yeah, $3 an egg!

him: so that's $36 a dozen?

me: (still laughing) sounds about right!
and then he actually handed me $80.........

i thought he was joking when he asked about it being $3 an egg... i mean, who would even consider paying that for eating eggs? it took just about everything i had to correct his mistake and hand the money back. i was running the list of all the chicken supplies i could buy with that kind of money (not to mention chickens!). i had to tell myself it's not right to take advantage of people, no matter how much money they have to throw away.

OMG and I have some people that raise their eyebrows at $2 a dozen. Wow we could all use someone that wants to pay that much.

I have 10 days left till my new set of chicks comes in. I just hope my broodies hold out for that long.

Went the poultry show this morning (saw possumblossum & tnlou and some other BYC members!).
We watched a bit of the judging after my sale birds were gone....
We're standing there when I hear a judge say a bird is choking. DH didn't hear what the judge said, but turned in time to see the judge put the bird to his mouth and and blow into its beak. DH turns to me and said, "What did he just do??!!" I told him the bird was chicking, just as the judge blew another breath into it. Others raced to get the bird's owner, you then took over blowing and peering to find the obstruction (shaving was the culprit, he thinks). We walked out and DH was very quiet. I don't think they were able to save the bird (the owner was walking out as well, with the bird).

After we got out of the barn DH turned to me and said, very seriously, " If one of our birds is choking, and needs mouth to mouth resuscitation, it's gonna die. I gotta draw the line somewhere, Honey, and I'm not sticking a bird's head in my mouth."
Poor guy. I tried real hard not to laugh....
