Teriyaki "Teri" is getting closer to laying her first egg!!!!!:wee

My pictures aren't great but hopefully you can see what she's got

These are from a few minutes ago .

She will be 16 weeks on the 30th. And is starting to show some interest in the nesting boxes.

Her face looks like it might have some reddening left to do, but she’s adorable!! Has she started squatting yet? They usually start squatting right before they start laying.
I haven't seen her squat yet. I figure we still have a few weeks yet, but she is making progress. This will be my first layer. I'm soo eggcited

I have been trying to better educate myself about my birds. Are there any diagrams of where to check the spacing at? I'm not sure what it's actually called. I feel kinda dumb.

Here's how I do it. Put the fingers of your flat hand on the soft, fluffy area just under the vent and press gently up toward the vent without actually touching the vent. You should feel two bony protrusions on either side of the vent. They may be one finger, two fingers or three fingers apart. When they are three fingers apart you have a layer!

Thank you for making it simple. I'm a newbie. I know the birds aren't all that fragile but I still find them a little intimidating.

Not fragile at all, they're very tough little characters. If you're doing this on your own, tuck the bird under one arm like a football to control the wings. Use your dominant hand to invade her privacy, she really won't mind. 😆
