Test Hatchers for Easter Eggers? [from GA]

What beautiful birds you have!

I think EEs and Ameraucanas are my favorites. I love the mystery involved in waiting to see what color egg they will lay.

Hey, thanks everyone for the compliments.

We think they are beautiful and sweet, but we *are*a little biased.

I got the dark blue hen in the top picture from an egg from an eBay seller named grandmacrazycraft [ http://myworld.ebay.com/grandmacrazycraft ]. I've bought two batches of her eggs and been very happy. She has very nice chickens.

I got the lighter blue hen in the second photo from an egg I got from an ebay seller named comfortableboots. [ http://myworld.ebay.com/comfortableboots ] but I haven't seen her selling any more recently. I've been watching, I'd love to buy more eggs from her too!

So, they are all eBay chickens basically.

They are the "best" I've gotten from about 7 different batches of "Ameraucana" eggs I've hatched off eBay - most of which turned out to actually be mutts. These are the "best" few that I've kept.

You can buy eggs on eBay, but no live chickens.

Are these Ameraucanas? LOL - well, that's hard to answer.

All of them were *sold* to me as "pure" Ameraucanas, but many of them aren't.

Basically the difference between an EE and an Ameraucana is the color - if a chicken that lays blue or green eggs does not meet certain color standards set by the Ameraucana breeders club [ http://www.ameraucana.org/scrapbook.html ] then it is, by default, an Easter Egger, not an Ameraucana.

[Unless it is an Auracana, which is something completely different....LOL! Are you confused yet? I am!

So, the two hens in the top photo ARE Ameraucanas from what I understand - they are a blue and a blue wheaten ["Nugget Jr" and "Blondie"]. The hen in the middle picture ["Popeye"] is also a blue [and a really nice one], but she does not have a rose comb, which may disqualify her, I'm not sure.

I have another hen, "Rainbow" on the webpage - she is definitely an EE, but she is a great "almost every day" layer, so I am breeding her for egg laying ability. [she is also very beautiful IMO!]

My rooster, Prince, definitely does not meet the color standards so he is an EE, but I decided to keep him and breed him because he IS pretty anyway and he is a really nice, attentive, and gentle roo. Temperament is really important to me.

So, I'm calling them all EEs. People probably will get some that meet the color requirements to be Ameraucanas, but I'm selling them all as EEs.

I'm trying to be exceptionally honest and up front about my birds. I have found that to be rare amongst certain folks, and I appreciate honesty myself.

That's also why I put up the webpage with pics of every single one of them, so people could see the exact stock they are getting eggs from.

*hehe* yes, VERY confused!

I appriciate your honosty! I don't care WHAT the birds are, really, as long as they are pretty to look at and lay lots of eggs!

I would, however, LOVE one or two that lay blue eggs...

Jamie, one of mine lays eggs that are almost turquoise colored [Rainbow]. The other girls lay green eggs so far. I have one more that should start laying in the next few weeks, I don't know what she'll lay yet.

Hi Kelly -

Just curious, is there such a thing as a bantam EE? If so, are any of yours bantams?
