Tethers and Why They Should Never Be Used on Peafowl

I am throwing in my big ole IMO. Birdrain92 I think that if you are the only one showing peafowl that you can do this to the safest and best ability you can. Since their are no precedents for peafowl use a cage and if they question you just explain that as their were no rules set in place for this particular entry that you are doing what is the most responsible and safest way to show this bird. After all you are trying to show how beautiful this bird is, and if you approach them with this I don't see how they could not understand and respect you for caring for your birds. You always express yourself very well on here so I think they would take what you say and hopefully set up safe procedures for this. Again just my opinion.

Invite a bunch of your friends over and do a practice run, I bet she won't behave the same with a bunch of people and noise.

You lost the bet then. Every Saturday I have a poultry meeting at my advisors place with other kids from 6 to 14 years of age. we have ten kids with their parents at our meetings and we have all of our birds on carpets on tables. The tether is working and it's what I have to work with. If I could I would just clip her wings that way she can't fly during fair and then when she molts she can start flying again. I think that would be the safest way.

You have a nice new camera, next Saturday snap a couple pics of Thora on the table in front of your group. I would really like to see this whole set up and what you have accomplished with her. I find it all very interesting.

Hun even if you clip her wings she can jump straight up 6 feet and i can tell you from experience one of them clipped wings hits someone in the face it is gonna leave some mark like 80 grit sand paper.
If you are working with her daily then you should be fine and having her around different stuff is great cause that is what it is gonna take to keep her tame, it is in their nature to be flighty in unfamiliar situations they are prey animals it is instinct.

It's not clear what your point is here???

There is an individual here who has already done "something stupid that results in the harm of the animal/s in their care," however they do not seem to have learned from the experience. They are continuing to make the same mistake.

Most of us do not need to learn from this mistake, as we would never tether peas. The purpose of this thread is to encourage the person who made the mistake not to continue with behavior that could be harmful to peas.
My purpose in posting was to ask you people to back off on this kid and quit your pompous harassment.
