Texas BYC Cafe

Thank you for the compliments. :) IT'S DONE!!!! I finished the garage this morning! It took 5 weeks (including the weekend I couldn’t paint due to rain). Now I need to paint the house. The white on the garage is the color that I am painting all the trim and the porch. The brown will be an accent color on the porch squares. I'm still trying to decide if I want to paint the side door to match the house doors. It's kind of windy out there! Glad I finished before the winds got too high. I did it all by myself too! Sasha helped me again and got more highlights. ;) I haven't taken her picture yet though. I didn't see my other helper today. I wonder if he has moved on now. Harley - I hope you catch whatever varmint that nabbed your chickens. It does sound like raccoons. I've seen some huge ones around here. You should be able to make a nice pair of slippers and cap from a big one. ;)
Laurie I am so proud of you!! It looks fantastic! :woot

I believe you! 2 Gallons of exterior cost me $85! lol The breeder in OH got back to me. Total would be $130 for 8 chicks w/ shipping. I really can't spend that much..but they're SOOO gorgeous. She's the one w/ Sussex, Faverolles, and BLRW. Here are her pictures, and her website (just in case..don't want to misrepresent) http://sunsetmeadowfarm.com/:love
You have got to STOP!!! I'll take one of each. Lol

I cant stop!!! Until I get my fix ;)
If I decide to go with her I may need to use it as my birthday present...lol and even then im pushing it :p

Yeah, they have a lot of breeds id probably get to go with, but most of them aren't ready til fall, or theres a wait list. :/ No worries! I thought about a partridge Cochin myself, but I dont need more bantams

I am trying to get rid of the two PR hens that were given to me and are not laying. If i do that I will have room for 2 more. Hmm creme bar??!!
There is always the stew pot option. ;)

When I was out riding this morning I collided with a bug. I think it was a big bug. Not sure, I didn't see it. I sure did feel it though. I was going 27mph and it stung! It felt like the time Nathan shot me with his airsoft gun. The pellets he uses are the extra hard kind too. I had a welt and now a bruise. Glad it was on my thigh and not my face.

Who on here was talking about the Axe Cloud a while back? It would have actually been in another thread.
My girlfriend's kids are going to camp and Axe is not allowed. lol! I just read this too. So funny!

400

These are my littles, 2nd night out joining the big girls. They are as close to inside the house without actually being inside. Last night they went back to the Guinea pig/coop they have been in for 3 weeks. This is just so funny!

I would totally be up for the stewpot. They are really large. But, alas, I don't do stewpot. Unless it is with the yucky stuff it get at the grocery called chicken. Too bad Harley isn't close. I'm going to my moms in August rt by Harley. I may take them and let him eat them!!!

It's not going very good!! Darn PBR are mean to my babies! Most of the RIR just peak a go on but the other ones they attack the silkies! The rooster silk mire than the hen!! What am I going to do??? I guess I need to start looking for a small coop and run just for them! How can I make one easy and cheap???

The boys say just keep trying but I can't stand seeing them attack poor Cluck Norris like that. They are putting all his Ninjia skills to the test!!
If you have a separate pen, try putting one of the older ones in with the silkies and see how they do. Then try adding another one in a day or so. Then you can try adding them all back into the main coop. That way, there will be more "new" chickens for everyone to pick on instead of just two? It would be easier of the silkies were the older ones. They would probably mother the the new ones instead of pecking them.

Would anyone be interested in a proposition?

I'm trying one last breeder, but if I have to, I'll be ordering some chicks from Ideal.
I don't NOT need (nor do I have the space for) $25 worth of birds.
I'm willing to bite the bullet and pay for extra chicks AND shipping, if someone would be willing to take them.
Dallas area, but if you want to travel, that's fine.
I can order whichever breed/combination you like.
I just want a few Salmon Faverolles.

Sounds like a great offer, but I'm full. :)

New trap is very expensive. Big trap to catch coyote may run $350, so some places have option for rent.

We have A Star is Born. Below is Charlie taken last weekend, at 3 mos old. He chatted and learned to roll over. Enjoy Charlie Production

He is such a doll!!

My 4.5 week old babies have destroyed their cardboard brooder. In two days have tipped two full gallons of water! Plus their brooder is in the coop which records temps of 85-90 in daytime. I've been carrying them to a separate run, but trying to catch 17 chicks, not fun for this 62 yr old grandma! So today they joined ranks with the 6 4 month old biddies. There's been a little pecking in the yard but no blood. I cut escape holes into their brooder so they can leave it but run back if they are being bullied. I felt even though they are young, there's 17 of them and only 6 of the older biddies. Hope it works!
I've read here on BYC where it works much better if the young ones outnumber the older ones when it comes to combining flocks. Good luck!

How is it going after 3 days? I didn't even try to merge my 4 silkies into the flock. But one of my 4.5 week old black stars got into the silkie cage by accident. The 11 week Silkies were scared of her, so I doubt I will ever put them in the big coop, They would get trampled and pecked.
