I have to ask this one. I have a silkie hen that when she is standing around she has her head down under her chest. She looks like she is looking for something under her but there is not anything there. She does raise her head up when she is walking around and when she stops her head goes right back down under her. Does anyone have a clue as to why she would be doing this ?
I think I would suspect wry neck and get her on major vitamin therapy... Even though usually their head goes up ie. stargazing, but when I was reading about it, there was a pic of one with head down... I think people get poly vi sol which is infant vitamin drops from a pharmacy. It is common with silkies

Aww Harley, I am sorry about that! I truly hate it when things go wrong for our chicks! I sure hope someone can help you out.

Good Morning!

Did anyone get some rain yesterday? We got a nice rain. I had almost finished mowing the field, when the rain hit. The lightning hit pretty close, so I called it quits. Hope to get the yard done today.

What do you think of my new pet?

I was coming back from the mailbox when I saw him climbing up the side of the house. That is the 2nd one I have seen in 3 years. He is a fairly quiet one. Doesn't get excited when I touch him. Pretty neat, isn't it???

Ya'll have a great day!

Lisa :)
I haven't seen a live one in years! The last one was about 40 years ago. My brother had it as a pet for a while, then he let it go. I do have one as a paper weight.

I like spiders. We usually have some gorgeous garden spiders in our barn. If they come back this year, I take a pic of them.

Not much going on here. I've been working every day, so not spending a lot of time out with the hens. I do have a question. What do ya'll put your grit in? Right now, I just have it in a small clay flower pot tray. Thinking about making a pipe feeder, but wanted to know what ya'll used.

Nice and cool this morning. Wish it would last. Hope everyone has a great day!

Hey my chicky friends! Just wanted to say hi from vacation land! Up enjoying my coffee with a great view! And I can hear roosters crowing!! Feel right at home! Lol

I don't do grit either..I did it a bit when they were chicks, but mine also free range and they haven't had an issue yet.

Do you feed FF? If so you can sprinkle it on the top of the food just before feeding. If they have access to small pebbles and sand they probably don't need grit. Be sure to feed oyster shells though.

There is going to be an eclipse tomorrow night.
And keep in mind, the instant of the Full Moon this week occurs on Friday at 4:13 UT… this means that from the U.S. Central time zone westward, the Full Moon actually falls on Thursday the 12th.
