Cool thanks, Ill give those folks a call . I believe the A&M's are tad bigger. From the research I have done, A&M crossed the Bobs and the conturnix for a potential chicken replacement. incubation time is around the same time as Bobs. I picked the A&M's so I don't have to have all the permits from the Wild Life folks to start out. =/

Permits? D&L hasn't said anything about my needing permits when I was going to get some Bobwhites.

Unfortunately yes. I start digging into the Bob White Restoration plan a few weeks ago and I came across this for game bird breeding. Depending on how many game birds/eggs you plan to raise, the yearly permit from TPW can range from 27 to 189.

Wow, turkeys are on the list. I'm guessing they mean wild turkeys and not the ones people would have on a farm. Ducks too. I wonder if my neighbor has a permit for hers. I bet many people don't know about this and don't get them.

I didn't see California Quail on the list. I'd like some of them. I need more land before I get into quail though so it will be a few years.

T-2 days and counting until Christmas. :) Is everyone ready?

I found this article on chickens on National Geographic I thought I would share.

I hope everyone has a blessed and Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas to everyone that visits the cafe!!

Cold here this morning. I've got my brisket cooking and rolls rising. Just waiting for daylight to head out and do my chicken chores. DH is hunting this morning, so I have a bit of time for me before everyone heads over.

Thanks for the article JB! The Red Jungle fowl looks a lot like EE's! Hope everything is going well with you and yours this holiday. :)

Howdy ya'll. We finally closed on the house and 8 acres north of Tyler and have been going back and forth working on it. Husband is still working, so I go during the week. Got it painted and now laying floor. I picked unfinished white knotty pine, I am really a sucker for hard work.

Going back up next week and try to get as much done as I can. When I get it all laid, going to whitewash it, then 3 coats of polyurethane. We planned on moving the first of the year, have moved that to maybe mid-February. Gotta get at least enough fence up for a small enclosure for the horses and a hoop coop for the chickens. Still so much work to do before we can even move!

Happy New Year everybody!
