Texas Member List - Updated 1/2010

I'm in Houston. Walking distance of downtown, and I can hear the roosters crowing! I love it. I have 5 hens and a coop that looks like a children's playhouse. Dianne

Yesterday, I had to keep my hens in their coop ALL DAY and head off to work as Water Department folks were repairing a leak at the back fence. Well, it was much cooler in the 7-foot tall, ventilated and windowed coop than it was outside (It's partially under a pecan tree). Thank heavens! I will freeze the spare plastic water container solid tonight so they will have ice water for part of the day tomorrow. The heavy duty metal waterer hangs in their coop. I've been letting them out of their run and they really run to the yard. Will they damage the St. Augustine? I'd like to get it to grow in their run, which is scruffy from not being maintained.

Hi Dianne,
That's funny that you hear roosters around downtown Houston !

Your chickens will eat anything that is in their coop or run, so forget about keeping grass in there. If it is a permanent run, add some play sand. It is easy to rake out and you can turn it under every once in a while.

We add lime and rototill our runs about every 3-4 months.

Better take me off the list! I've had a wonderful opportunity and, after 31 years in Texas, am selling up and moving to Virginia in three weeks!

I hate to leave Texas but I'm looking forward to Virginia!

Hello! Anyone from Waller, TX in Waller County?

I love the idea of pulling up stakes and starting a new adventure. However, unless something happens to change my status here, it is not very likely for me.

I looked at your website and love your house. I hope someone buys it soon. The housing market is so bad right now.

Your new home looks beautiful.
