I'm putting this on the Texas page because only Texans understand Texas weather and how varied it can be. I live in deep South Texas, right off the Mexico boarder. Right now it's raining, kind of, and the temperature is going to hang around 49-50. In the north that's summer, down here that's cold and I have the heaters on. I have 5 Buff Orpingtons and 3 Ameraucanas, one of which I believe to be a rooster all others are pullets, they are about 4 weeks old and yesterday I put them in a coop, pictured below, when it was 70 degrees out they of course loved it but it will be 49-55 until Tuesday. Do I need more heat for them?

I have them pinned in the enclosed part with grass and pine wood shavings, along with their food of course.

If they can get up into that coop, out of the wind, and have some hay or whatever to snuggle down into, they should be fine. Even at that age, I think heat is more of a threat than cold. You may find you need to make one or two of those solid walls hardware cloth once they are past about 6 weeks and the real heat starts.

That top enclosure us solid on all sides and I can sht the door that leads to it, also there is a nest box on the far left, you probably can't see it. But I went a head and brought them in they're literally lounging in front of the heater. Lol. But good info, thank you.
