Thank you.. it's been exactly three weeks today, and I think I've processed it now. I suppose three weeks of shock and sorrow was worth sharing the life of this little princess for 31 months.I am very sorry to hear this. Your post today brought it to my attention (very busy the last couple weeks) and I went to check what I’d missed.
Roost in peace, little Piou-piou.
Maybe a good reason to nominate these people for the next round? I nominated a few people right after the announcements, because I knew I would forget later. Also, quite a few of the people I look up to don't have the badge because they post less, but have way more knowledge and experience.
No need. They don’t take it away after you got the badge. But we like to see your contributions in the future too of course. For those of you who got the badge recently, did you make any effort to contribute more, and in what way ? Spend more time answering posts, write articles, express an opinion when you read something you disagree with ?
Lilly on the other hand is a horrible butt pecker - whenever she sees his behind she runs and grabs his quills feathers, making him bleed !
Overall, roosters are definitely sillier than hens.you can see Théo above Gaston provoking him to come out and fight.
Just on Merles mind? or do you have any plans for babies too this year?Babies !!!![]()
Congratulations on your friends badge.Thank you, especially to those who nominated me. I have impostor syndrome. 90% of my time on BYC, I'm reading and learning, whining, rambling, or posting pictures, and only 10 % I'm putting out useful information or helping someone out ! Also, quite a few of the people I look up to don't have the badge because they post less, but have way more knowledge and experience.

I guess writing a tribute will be the last page to turn. It's difficult because I'm trying to not make it a whole book!
It was beautiful but cold again today with -6 this morning. We managed to finish tying up all the hardware cloth today for the run, and put back the chain link over it. There was quite a few ugly words between us, and it didn't help that it didn't go above 6c/43f, but we're done working with mesh. Now we just have to secure the space between the rafter and the house's wall, and check again if there are any other weaknesses, and we'll consider the run safe from marten, and anecdotally song birds and mice as well. I've learned the lesson though-safe now doesn't mean forever.
I saw my neighbour Amelia today and like us she hasn't seen any sign of the marten either on the camera or in the trap. However, she said the very night we last talked the marten killed a lone chick, though the broody wasn't hurt. She doesn't dare put her flock in the coop/run now when she leaves during the day so she lets them free range all the time - I'm sure the chickens are happy about it ! She really wants to catch the marten as she was planning on hatching a lot more chicks this spring ; I'd be glad to see chicks from Petit Blanc, who's looking great.
The egg mystery was solved, it's Annette who has begun laying again. Her second egg was closer to her usual size. It seems the break did her good because the shells are better than they used to.
Théo is trying to flirt with Annette now Merle spends most of the day on the nest ! But he's not very good at it so for now it's not working !
Chipie has been crowing again in the morning, and Gaston does a lot of wing shuffling at her when she does that. I'm very surprised she hasn't began laying again seeing how much time he spends with her. She is his preferred grooming hen and I think it's because she must do it lighter, being so small. Lilly on the other hand is a horrible butt pecker - whenever she sees his behind she runs and grabs his quills feathers, making him bleed !
This was the view from my bedroom yesterday : on the right zooming closely you can see Théo above Gaston provoking him to come out and fight.

I almost got him to come inside for dry meal worms, he loves those, but then he decided it was a trap.

Gaston decided the crate was a great place to stay away from the hen's laying chaos this morning.

Oh they can and they have. They don’t take it away after you got the badge
This makes me wonder. What do you need to do, or not to do, to loose a badge?Oh they can and they have.
