I'm not trying to be silly just want to learn something new, like everyone else. How can you tell it was your old hive? Do they try to get into the former area?

They swarmed out and went to a pine in the yard. While I was watching them they flew back down to my remaining hive. The queen has a red dot like the one I replaced in July or Aug.. When they rob a hive the queen doesn't go with them. I'm the only beekeeper for a couple of miles. There may be wild hive somewhere in the area, but before I got mine I hadn't seen any honeybees for years in my yard. So I'm pretty sure they are from that hive.
