Thank you for the tarp suggestion/pics #17

I put a clear tarp over my dog run last year. It rested on top of metal garden fencing and I secured it with bungie cords. Now it has quite a few little holes in it, but no rips (it is laced with white string/plastic, kinda like hardware cloth) Anyway I think it will last through this winter in North Texas. I think it held up pretty good.

The tarps I bought are listed as clear but with the white, 1/2 boxes ( great reinforcement), it's more milky than clear. If this works all winter as it has so far, my chickens won't have to spend lengthy periods of time in the coop, which is a really good thing. By the 4 sq. foot/per chicken rule, I'm two chickens over that limit. One is wearing pinless peepers and her picking on others problem is gone! BYC has been a blessing with the multitude of great advice. I'm so excited over the tarps:)

What I have sounds like what you are describing. Including the screws, washers, and furring strips, it cost me less than $100 to cover the sides of the run. I'm planning to take the tarps down in April. If they las two or three years, I'll be thrilled.

wondering how this does look. any pics?

I ordered from tarpcover sales.com The clear tarps were on sale and had free shipping. Great deal.

I just ordered one also from Tarpcover sales. Pretty reasonable and free shipping too.

Thank you so much for posting this! I had a clear tarp on my Amazon wish list to cover my hoop coop and, with shipping, it was going to cost nearly 4X the price of tarp cover sales (for the same weight/ quality!) and I truly didn't think my family would give me this for Christmas, anyway...even tho I really, really need it (and I've been so good this year!).

I'm ordering the tarp and bungee ball tie downs today and can hardly wait to take off the dark blue tarp that's on it now!

Woohoo!

If clear tarp is out of your budget, in the construction section of your hardware store you should find big rolls of clear construction plastic, and the 6mil is super tough and easy to put up. I use this every year for enclosing runs, covering areas, etc. I get a 20' x 100' roll for about 60 bucks.

I use a staple gun on the edges where I can and fender washers everywhere else.
