I just wanted to say a huge thank you for creating this awesome website. I use it all the time. Mostly for social stuff.

Today, I was trimming my hen's LONG toenails and cut one too short. It was bleeding all over the place and I called the local feed store to see if they had some stuff to put in it to get it to stop bleeding. They said yes and said it had benzocaine to help w/ the pain. I asked if that was safe for chickens and they said yes. But something told me to double check.

When I typed into Google, is benzocaine safe for chickens, it directed back to BYC and no, it's NOT safe for chickens.

I just sat with her in my lap for a long while while holding corn starch on it and it stopped bleeding.

I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to Nifty Chicken and everyone on this site for all the wonderful posts. My hens thank you too!!!

Yes this place is a wonderful source of information! I am glad you were able to get the bleeding to stop.

Blood stop powder is effective too...I bought mine from calvetsupply. Your feed store might have that. It is just I think iron oxide or something like that. I have used it once and it worked.

Additionally, you can come back again and again to henny's toenails by waiting one week, and the quick will recede slowly if you clip the end off each time.

Yes, it is amazing how often when you "google" a poultry question, you are usually directed to BYC for the answer! I tell people all the time about BYC and I think they think I am crazy when I tell them just how many members are actually on this site and how much information these people have to go around. I don't think there is another place on the internet nor any book that contains the knowledge that BYC has. This place is truly amazing. Thanks so much!
