Well, even though we lost his brother (he died in the shell a day after he was due--he never even internally pipped), we are so happy to have this little guy. Please meet Sebastian George the baby Sebastopol, born 3-21-2011. He was 2 days late, but well worth the wait!

Now, if I could only get him to stop crying. I finally put Gizmo, a Cayuga x Khaki Campbell-Cayuga mix duckling, inside the brooder with Sebastian. Gizmo was born at the same time. They like each other, but Sebastian still cries ALL the time. Even if I'm holding him, he cries. I've tried stuffed animals, a mirror, a feather duster, and toys. Is there something wrong with him?

I just acquired a new baby gosling and had a gosling to hatch as well. They both cried a lot. I tried cuffing my hand and allowing them to get inside of my cuffed hand they immediately stopped crying. Now you won't be able to do that all the time but it does help to calm them down. I also took a knit cap and placed them in the cap and closed the opening up so it would be totally dark inside. I put them in the bed with me with them still being in the knit cap and I didn't hear a "peep" at all from either one. Try that and see. It works for me.

I'm happy to hear that others have had crying goslings. I was getting very worried that something medically was wrong with him.

I may try the dark hat thing, but will have to sleep with him in my home office. Our FIVE dogs sleep with us ON our bed!

Goslings, especially certain breeds (sebastopols being one of them!) are very dependent creatures. From what I understand, sebastopols tend to be a little high-maintenance... Oh, and boys especially. I think, the older they get, the better they are with this. A duckling as a friend will most likely calm him down eventually. Here's hoping. He looks healthy to me, so I wouldn't worry too much about the crying.

I see you have another thread... I didn't notice it! Well he looks great, so good job.
