We have an annual event in a small town near me. A FRUIT CAKE TOSS!!!

Ya'll never had my mom's fruitcake. It soaks in applejack brandy for a month before eating. Not a really gooey, sticky one, and it makes fabulous snacks when toasted and buttered.

Dang, I have to shop today, wonder if the candied fruits are marked down.......

I guess I'm in that minority that LOVES fruitcake, too. The best I EVER had was from some company in Texas. We had sold it through our Christian School at our church as a fundraiser. Once I tasted it, I was my kids' best customer.

Wish I could remember the name of the company... that stuff was melt in your mouth, slice of Heaven, golden goodness!

We have a "fruitcake tradition" in our family. I am from a large family (6 brothers & sisters + spouses and kids). In 1996 there was a surprise gift under the tree from Santa for one of my brothers. It was a Collins Street Bakery Fruitcake in a decorator tin. Each year since then that same Fruitcake has made it back under the tree addressed to a different family member! Many years it is very creatively wrapped and it is always a surprise as to who gets it next. One year there were identical fruitcake tins full of candy for everyone ~ except the lucky one.

Guess what I got this year!

Now I have a year to figure out who gets it next and how to wrap it...

White chocolate is the fat from the chocolate (cocoa?) bean. Probably won't hurt them any more than any other fat. I, too, would go easy on sweets for them, though, and I wouldn't chance regular chocolate.

for 20 years my grandfather sent me a fruitcake from the Collin St. Bakery. I LOVED it!!!! I was the only one who ate in it my family, so I always had about 3/4 of it left over after the holidays. I bet you didnt know, if you soak it in Absolute and Rum it is even BETTER the next year!!!!!?????. really.
Anyway, I have heard that dried fruit is NOT GOOD for your chickens. THat they can not digest it. I dont know if it's true or not, but I have avoided giving any to my girls on that belief. Let me know if your like it. I would love to share mine with them!

That would probably be the Collin Street Bakery http://www.collinstreet.com/ They have fruitcake without the nasty citron in it. It is really yummy -- great pecans and lots of fruit. Maybe they are having an after Christmas sale?
