I just wanted to thank you for the website, we received our first chickens spring 2011 and have been learning about them through your website and also from the day to day fun!

Yesterday, through information on your website we rescued a partially hatched chick whose yolk sac hadn't fully absorbed. Thankfully, this morning (s)he is alert, eating a little and curious. The yolk sac has been absorbed and the area is closed up nicely. We tried to reintroduce her to the hen, but she won't have anything to do with her (she pecks her). Is there a correct way to do this, or will we need to keep her separate until she is older?

Thanks again, we so appreciate your website, it has provided us with a wealth of information.

Our family includes myself, a very understanding husband, four precious children, lots of chickens, guineas, a horse, honey bees, a hermit crab, and an old cat.

This is a great place for poulltry/animal keepers.

Hi and :welcome

You'd be best to introduce the chick to the hen slowly... perhaps keep them separated where they can still see each other. Size difference that encourages pecking, so if all else fails wait till the chick is grown. :)

Good luck!
You should also try posting in some of the others sections for more detailed advice. Sorry, I don't have much experience with hatching.
