Hi y’all,
Thanks for the add
I am a brand new chick and duckling momma. They are dOing great, and I am already head over heels. My question is my chicks keep playing in their waterer how do I keep them from doing that? I just raised it and cleaned the brooder again. I also have one chick in particular that literally thinks he is a duck. I cannot keep him out of the ducklings water for anything. I’m hoping raising the water helps. I tried separating them, but it really stressed the ducklings they think the chicks are their siblings and screamed for an entire day until I put them back. Thanks for any advice.

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

You might want to brood ducklings and chicken chicks separately. Ducks need a lot of water to keep their nostrils clean and do a lot of playing in water. Chicken chicks are susceptable to disease with a lot of wet bedding around, and should be dry as possible. So I would brood them separately if possible.

Good luck with your babies and welcome to our community! :)

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
You can brood them "together" in the same brooder but with a divider of hardware cloth or equivalent to keep them separate. Then make a vertical nipple chick waterer like this for the chicks to help keep the brooder drier and cleaner.
