Hello ALL,
I got into raising chickens last spring because I thought they would be the perfect starter "herd" for my 2 year old son to farm. He loves them and they are easy enough for him to do most of the chores associated with them. And what kid doesn't love an egg hunt every day?? Lol. Well, we were quickly becoming the drop off place for all of the local unwanted chickens and our flock quickly grew from 10 to 30!! Come the fall months I lost my job and we were unable to finish the coop we were intending for the winter months here in the frigid lands of Michigan and ended up having to rehome most of them ourselves. That left us with a manageable 5 hens, 1 rooster, and 6 Rouen ducks. Once I noticed how much easier the ducks were to manage then the chickens in the conditions I had available I was hooked. We made a visit to the feed store and purchased 6 more ducklings to add to our flock........and then my son and I snuck in another visit and added 18 more
.
This has of course came with many questions that have risen, all leading me back to this forum. I had tried asking questions on other sites only to be met with rudeness and criticism. But, every time I have visited these forums looking for advice I could not help but notice how supportive and helpful every one is and so I just HAD to sign up
.
So, thank you everyone for being you and I can not wait to see how much useful advice I get from this great support system.
Talk to you soon I hope,
Chassidy
