Hi and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us. You may find the learning curve more gentle if you opt for 4-5 month old pullets, rather than day old chicks - less hassle and you get eggs faster!

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - just type the name of your state in the search box.

It's best to plan and be prepared first - so you can settle down and enjoy your birds when you get them. Have you thought about what type of chickens you would like, meat birds, layers, pets or lawn ornaments. If there are children in your family, you should probably pick from the docile breeds.
