Thank you to all who replied to my thread.
I already tried the "Snake Be gone" stuff. It was more like sending them a party invite.
I was told the strong odor of moth balls could be dangerous to the chicks.
I had taken the chicks to a safe place at a friends and set a trap for the snake:
I placed an egg in a "live trap" but as of yet it has eluded me.
I am afraid to bring my chicks home.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Hope you are able to take care of the snakes!

I don't even like to write out the S word. Sometime back on BYC, a poster said he used rolls of chicken wire and spiraled them out around the coop and run, kind of a twisted 'slinky' effect. When the s tried to slither through the openings in the wire, they get all caught up and stuck in the wire. They either die there or other predators consume them.

You might also try a flock of the larger size guineas. I've heard cowboys used to encircle their camp with rope, that s won't crawl over it but, if it were true, so one would be bothered by s, and the price of rope would go way up.
