We have had our chickens for 3 years. Just doubled our flock this year as nature had taken our numbers down a little and our girls were also laying less. We have 16 hens - 8 that are around 3 and 8 that are 5 months old. The older crew includes 2 americanas, 1 buff orp, 3 barred rock, 2 cherry eggers. New crew is 4 speckled Sussex and 2 each golden and silver laced wyandottes.

Besides chicks, we start beekeeping this year and have 2 dogs - a rottie and a bluetick beagle. The beagle is just one of the girls - they love him and he loves their poop and food. The rottie thinks they are super exciting and has caught our buff a couple of times but inflicted no bodily harm. She’s learned well to watch from afar now.

We live on 5 acres outside of Richmond, Virginia.

Welcome Cool.gif
You have a nice bix of chickens!

Do the dogs stay out at night to keep predators away?

Welcome!! :frow we are in Lunenburg county (near Farmville). Still kinda new to chickens myself but i have a small flock and a newly hatched chick. We wanted to get into beekeeping but were wary because of all the bears here. If i can ever help an any way were not too far from each other. :welcome

Welcome!
I'm a new member also. I'm clear on the other side of the country from you tho. I'm in Oregon. Sounds like you have a nice farm!
