Thanks to the lockdown I cant buy feeds.

Maybe try sprouting? Even some dirt in a tray/pan with some scrounged seeds (like when we eat a pepper, I snag the seeds) could help some.

But as someone else mentioned, meat/protein is also a key consideration. Maybe a setup where you turn meat scraps into bug larvae?

Don't forget they are omnivores and can also benefit from meat, bugs, etc.

Peas are high protein and when paired with rice can provide many essential amino acids.

A little scrambled or boiled egg added into their diet can also provide many nutrients... just don't feed them excessively and long term as they are 34% protein and 64% fat... with almost half the protein being found IN the yolk.

I'm SURE things are different in the Philippines... here in the US our major farm and feed stores are still open but doing curb side delivery/pick up and with shortened hours... also accepting credit only and not handling cash to minimize... the nastiness spread by the ever so lovely dollar.

Hang in there... this will pass! :fl
Yup things here got worst. We have 5000 cases already.

I’m new to chickens, so don’t take advice from me unless you do your own research and/or someone more experienced confirms the information. I think people feed cat food to chickens in some cases to boost protein intake. That might be an option to supply your chickens with nutrients, especially protein. Unlike chicken feed, you could probably get cat food during your next grocery store trip.

Reduce flock size down to best quality birds you have so feed and feedstuffs you have on hand can be stretched further. You might be able to use light traps to attract night flying insects as protein source.

For next 72 hours I have to stay locked up as well because someone I contacted may have bug. Since I am home I can release some hens, and hens with chicks to get all eats by foraging. Myself, kids or dogs are out with those birds preventing something or someone from taking those birds. The birds can forage a fairly sizeable area.

All other options I can think of require me to leave property.

I feed mine cat food on occasion, but they need lots of water because cat food has lots of salts in it.

Do you have any animals with shavings as bedding besides piultry? We let the chickens in the rabbit shavings because there's usually bugs that live in there near cleaning day
