Hi. I've been raising chickens for over a decade on Colorado's Western Slope. Currently I have a flock of 10 2.5 YO's, and five pullets. And a rooster, of course! My biggest issues are predators: coyotes, bears and goshawks. I've lost 3 to bears and goshawks this spring, but have finally fully "roofed" their run with bird netting that I think will stop the hawks, and have motion sensor alarms (lights and siren) on two sides for the bears. We'll see!

Anyway, thanks for having me. I've been lurking for years, but needed to post a health issue, so finally joined.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

We have bears, but our dogs usually tree the cubs, so that slows the mom down.

We've run them off with a warning shot in the air. At night, the coops are predator-proof, so nothing can get them.

I'd get a solar or electric fence put up. We had a solar one when we had bees. We got ours at Home Depot.
