Thanksgiving dinner - when should I get chicks if I want them ready???

I want to get about 5 turkey's with one of them being Thanksgiving dinner. When is the best time to get them so they are ready for dinner???

For a heritage variety you want them at least 6 months old, we like our Thanksgiving bird more around 8 months.

My Thanksgiving turkey was a 9 month old Blue Slate Tom. He was just under 14 pounds.

Like Steve said, heritage birds need to be 6-10 months. I like them 8-9 months. If you want a broad breasted type, they will be ready at about 4 1/2 months.

Now I just need to figure out where to get poults locally, any help would be appreciated I live just North of Denton TX.

Ask at your local feed store who raises turkeys, Craigs list, post at add on the wanted to buy section here.
