I'm sorry to hear that 3chickens. Are you going to keep trying with them or giving up? How long were they too hot? Does anyone else but me wonder why these incubators go up that high?

My news: Thanksgiving ducks are forming! I may have a couple that are candling clear, but I already saw veining and what could be a moving duckling. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I want my bath toys to have friends.

3chickens: I am so sad to hear about your eggs. Darn it!

About candleing ... I have read that candleing too often can disturb the progression. ie: that they are extremely sensitive to the moving around and can actually cause a quitter, especially the first days. Also that the light does something (forgot what it is) to it. Have you heard that? I have one of those electric candlers, and I don't even disturb the egg in the turner. I just hold it over the top to see any veining, but not til day 10 (sometimes as early as day 8). I never candle more than about 5 seconds on an egg.

What are your thoughts on this?

I leave them in the turners when I candle early, except for the first candling to check for freshness and find the air cell. Actually, I rarely take them out at all. I use a battery powered LED candler. I hadn't heard anything about the light being bad for them, but I do it very quickly (less than 5 seconds per) because I don't want to have all the heat in the incubator escape. Maybe it's also the heat from the electric candlers???

Edit: Brain error...I read "electric candler" in your post Kathy and wrote it when I meant incandescent bulb candler.

I will be joining in for hatch sometimes AROUND Thanksgiving, still trying to collect eggs from my traumatized hens from losing my lovely splash orp roo.

Also have showgirl and silkie eggs due in two weeks.
