Can't really see how many but appears to be around a dozen hatched out of the 38 vialble eggs. Hope when I get home from work there are lots more. Never had more than a 60% hatch rate and looking for better with this new Sportsman.
Family owns a DQ so have to work a day or two most weeks. In a very small town and that is the only way to survive finacially. I am retired from teaching science for 37 years.
I locked down Ducks, Silkies, and Seramas this morning (though I'm going to break lock down to candle and pull clear eggs tonight, which should be ok since it's early). Instead of using the Little Giant as a hatcher, I moved the turners to the LG and put all the leghorns in it and locked down in the Hovabator instead for a change.
This is fun hatching with everyone! Julie I am sorry that only one EE made it. I wonder if it the color of the egg. I know they are much harder to see into, so maybe they have a harder shell.
But...I candled today and I have 18 of Speckled Hens wonderful, wonderful Heritage Delawares going on lockdown on Sunday/Monday. I just can't decide what day. Oh I am feeling the pressure of the hatch. I hope they go on Wednesday so I can watch all day. I can hardly stand this!
Final count on the first hatch: 2 EE, 1 BC, and 9 SLW. Hopefully, the Welsummers and the rest of them will hatch Monday or Tuesday. They are the poor babies that went without heat for several hours. I have no idea what to expect with that one.
So excited for everyone. I'll try to get pics on here later tonight. Maybe they will be fluffy by then.
