(completely sprawled out, with tail flat) over top of 3 duck eggs. We have 2 pips in one egg, 1 pip in another, and nothing yet in the third. They are due today so we will have to check again tonight.

When we got home from Thanksgiving meal today we heard distinct peeping. Upon lifting up momma (Broody-Bator) to take a look, here is what we found. The one on the left actully just popped out as we were watching. It is about 3 seconds old in this picture.

came home from the outlaws thanksgiving dinner...we have 6 whites...3 blue...4 splash and 1 black...couple pipped... how do you post pics into post...

out of 18 shipped eggs, 8 made it to lock down. 5 hatched. I will give the others another day, but I don't think they made it. The buckeye finally quit trying to eat their toes and is enjoying their company. My husband still says since they are longcrowers that they will all be hens.

How many days should we give them past the 21st if they dont hatch? And how long after they first pip should they be out and about. Came home 3 hrs ago and there was a slight crack in the egg and it is getting a bit bigger but still cant see the chick. Is that normal?

Some of mine took hours to fully hatch after the first little crack. Some still just have cracks and its been nearly 24 hours for some. I only had one so far that pipped and zipped and popped out of the shell right in front of me within a matter of minutes! I'm lucky that I was here and able to get it on camera! One of the first ones to start rocking and then cracked slightly about 24 hours ago, then pipped a real hole about 12 hours ago, is finally zipping and it looks like it won't be long until that one gets here. Once they get motivated, they'll come out.

I do have one that I'm concerned about though. Big hole in the egg since last night, can see movement, but the poor little thing can't seem to get out! I don't know if I should help or not! The last one to hatch looks exhausted. Healthy, but really tired. Then again, compared to that first fiesty little one to come out, anyone would seem a bit subdued!

I can hear chripping. 2 have cracks in the shell but have not broken through. One other was shaking a while ago. No movement from the others. How long can they survive in there? One of them cracked their shell over 12 hours ago. It got a bit bigger but now nothing over night. Do I just sit and wait?

As hard as it is to do, waiting is usually the best thing you can do. I have helped quite a few of mine, and only one died, but it was because of my ignorance on proper humidity, NOT a problem with the chick itself. Go with your instinct-and if you do help, do it slowly and read about it first! Good luck!

No more pips as of last night. I had all shipped eggs this time. I think I got spoiled on the last hatch when they were mostly eggs from our chickens and they only had to travel a few steps to the house. I need to get up and go check the incubator, but am trying to get rid of the sinus headache that attacked last night. I am also feeling pessimistic.

I did get 1 silkie and 3 ducklings, though, and I'm incredibly thankful for them.
