So I have three Dominique hens and 1 Dominique roo. The hens are about 7-8 and a half months old. I have been trying to get them to set and today I thought one of them was since I have been saving up eggs in he nest and turns out, she was laying an egg this is making me mad cause I would much rather let the momma do the work rather then incuabute them! Is it cause if there age? Breed? Someone help and give tips and what I should do I’m getting mad

You're mad because an 8-month old pullet is starting to lay that early, rather than wanting to brood a clutch of eggs? Some hens die of old age without ever becoming broody, even those from breeds noted for broodiness.

Your probably going to have to incubate. The hens decide when they're going broody. How many and how old are the eggs? How have they been stored? Look up posts on candling to find out if they are viable. Best of luck. :)

My Dominiques aren't very good at being broody, they like to nest hop and they are frequently off the nest for longer than necessary. They are also mean, bitey broodies in my experience. I had a Dominique/Buff hatch a clutch, but I suspect she takes more after her buff side than the Dominique side.

That seems way too young to go broody..I'm my experience. Plus..young ones don't do well..They get bored easily and don't follow through..

I did have one girl who was hatched the last week of 1/30/2017 and she hatched out a batch of 10 chicks on 9/23/17, which means she wasn't even 8 months when the chicks hatched. However, she is a Buff Orp.
