kalikopoodles: i am not putting the eggs in the fridge before incubation. I have not started gathering them to incubate yet. I put them in the fridge for eating. I just notice that some have bullseye and some do not when I crack them open for breakfast

I will leave them at room temperature when I start gathering for incubation. I just don't want to start gathering and wasting a bunch of infertile eggs.

Thanks for the responses. I am going to wait another couple of weeks as these are pullet eggs and perhaps a couple are just playing are to get...

THis is my understanding. Hen and rooster mate, sperm goes into storage in the hen. The next time she ovulates, the sperm joins with the egg; during the 24 hour ride down the tract and then laid, the cells are multiplying and form the bullseye.

If your hens are laying pullet eggs, and the boys are the same age, the boys may need a little more time to mature. THey can do the deed but lack the fertility. Sometimes a boy favors certain hens and others do not get mated. Probably by the time the girls are laying full size eggs the boy(s) should be fertile. Mine are.

FYI: eggs for incubating are best stored at 50-65 degrees in a humid area for up to 10 days; if storing longer, 45 degrees is better. Depending on where you live the daytime temperatures are enough to get them incubating; so the counter may not be the best choice.
