I have four khaki campbells and one pekin, all four weeks old. Two of them are not squeaking anymore, but they aren't quacking like any quack I've ever heard, either. They're just sounding like....uh, I hate trying to describe sounds, lol...sounding like when you push your finger down and slide it across wet metal and it makes that noise. I thought I'd be able to tell sexes soon based on their voices, but I can't tell if that noise counts as a quack or a rasp. lol What *is* that?

I don't know but I'll be interested to find out! I have 5 khakis and a pekin (and a rouen), and the pekin is a power quacker. Everyone else sounds really funny next to her. One of my khakis sounds like a bullfrog! I'm guessing the different breeds might have a little different sound?? I'll be watching for answers!

JJ, my khaki/runner mix sounded more like a goose than a duck. Honking-grunting-snorting...all kinds of weird noises.

Bungie, my rouen drake, went from peeping to a monotone.

Uno is starting to make weird noises now at about 4 weeks.

I associate the different noises, tones and sounds to be more "girl" noises. Boys voices just get flat.

Here is a video of JJ a week or so before she died (light brown duck)

See, that's the noise I was expecting to hear from males, based on the recordings on the majestic waterfowl website.

I guess the two I have sound more like wifezilla's recording and the mw recording of a female than they do if that mw recording of a male. They definitely don't sound as raspy as that male recording. They just sound not quite quacky yet. lol

Uno is starting to make "duck fart" noises too. I think Uno may be a girl.

Around 43 seconds you hear it. Then you hear me snickering...LOL
(the quacks at the beginning is Lana in the other part of the yard)

The best way I can explain the sound of a male duck is that he was quacking all night and lost his voice. They go through a stage between peeping and quacking that is can be hard to tell, but a deep quack sound is a hen.

Headred's five campbells look like all drakes to me....female khaki campbells don't have the dark heads, their bills are also more rounded than a drakes which apear flattish....
here is a pic: Drake in front of hen. http://hillviewexotics.net/images/khaki.jpg

I doubt those are ALL drakes. Here is Janet. She was almost a year in this pic. Her head is darker than her body...

I couldn't get a good sound out of my ducks to tell what they were until 10 weeks old! That say sometimes at 8 weeks... but don't expect real quacking and such until 10 weeks. My 8 week old duck (female I'm sure) make s amillion noises, like wifezilla.... sounds like a goose more then a duck! LOL
