That's not a quack!

The voice transition cracks me up.
You hear peeping then all of a sudden you hear a noise that is a combo of a cough and a fart.

Hi Wifezilla, when did your drake start to get his really dark head?

When I got Jack, he already had his "big boy" feathers

The only one I can use as a guide is my Rouen drake. I believe that since khakis and rouens are both mallard derived, their development is pretty similar. At 8 weeks, Bungie is just now showing a green shimmer to his head feathers even though he still has some juvenile patterning.

That is EXACTLY what it sounds like!

After going back and looking at headreds picture of the ducklings just below the one with them with the waterer. You can clearly see the bill of three of them and those three are clearly drakes.

Then after veiwing the video again I am still confident that all 5 are drakes.

My hipothisis is that she bought them from a feed store and either 1. liked the look of drake ducklings better than hens and selected all drakes or 2, bought behind somebody who knew how to sex them and left all the drakes.

She will know soon enough when the adult feathers grow in

But if anybody is taking bets, those are mine.

We have at least two quackers! Yay! I've been hearing them quack for several days, but until I was able to hear some real life males vs. females (mallards) at the zoo today in the flamingo enclosure I wasn't sure if I was just wrong. Our Pekin is sometimes quacking (LOUDLY, I might add, lol) and at least one of the Campbells is quacking as well. I think two might be, which would be perfect, since we really wanted three females. Now the only problem is what to do with two males, if that's what we have. I'd be okay with eating them, but DH and DD both say no. I don't think DH understands how hard it might be to find a home for two males. Who wants males?

That's why I sold my drake along with his favorite girl. I wanted to keep her for eggs, but knew I would have a slim chance of selling him alone. I ended up getting $20 for the pair.
