It seems like all of my “talent” for drawing has left me . I don’t know why. Maybe I didn’t practice enough?

Trust me. It is the same for me. Just look at Odder's prototypes!

Practicing definitely helps a lot. And to be honest, the best way I like to just let is out is to grab a pencil and draw as lightly as I can. It may not even look like the reference. Just slowly find the shapes in your reference. Finding the shapes in a reference is extremely helpful to me.
