Also, I know this is impossible and kind of a long shot but I really wish I could have/already had a rooster because I would love to set some eggs from one of my Easter Eggers and/or my Barred Rock.

they are almost 3 1/2 years old though so I doubt the eggs would hatch anyway but it’s just that one of my EEs is an awesome layer (first to start, great winter layer/starts up quickly after molt, lays every day or close to it even now, etc.) and I would love to pass that on to future birds/preserve her genes and then I just love my Barred Rock. She is very smart and personable. I love all my chickens but would love to hatch eggs from those two. My other Easter Egger is a terrible layer LOL when she first started, she laid huge blue eggs, often double yolked, and was pretty good but then her production really went dramatically down pretty fast after the first like year even or maybe 18 months but it went down pretty fast. And she takes long breaks. Right now she started molting in August and has not laid since and even before then I don’t think she was laying for a little while. I think she might have finally started back up though because we got a unique looking egg recently, different looking from our other EE, but idk. We only got the one lol that was a few days ago. But she has a pretty good personality, seems interesting in me and likes hanging out near me rather than the other chickens, but a little flighty sometimes and doesn’t like being picked up, hard to catch. But she has calmed down as she has gotten older, less flighty, but still fairly hard to catch and hates being held. But she is also an excellent “watchdog” so to speak and her somewhat flighty tendencies keep them safe when free ranging so that is good. She sometimes spooks over seemingly nothing though and/or takes off flying across the yard and sends them all flying/gets them going LOL but she is good. Just a few months ago there was a hawk and they all froze under some baby pines for several minutes and didn’t move and I THINK she is the one who sounded the alarm and kept them frozen for so long but I am not sure. So her genes might be worth passing on too just for the safety of the flock if not the laying ability IF she starts laying again and I could collect enough eggs from her LOL but of course I do not have a rooster/my parents don’t like the idea of eating fertilized eggs or the crowing but it would be nice if I did have one. It would be really nice too if I could just like adopt an adult one on Craigslist or something and put it in with them for a few weeks (after quarantine of course) and then rehome him again or separate him but of course that wouldn’t be fair to the rooster to be rehomed so much so soon but it would be nice lol cause that way I wouldn’t have to deal with raising a chick up and would be dealing with crowing for a much shorter time ha maybe there is like a rent a roo service or something or a friend could loan me one.
