My ex didnt fill his out and left for India. I had no idea he hadnt filled it out. 9am after a loooooooong night with some friends, a lady comes knocking at the door. I stay in bed thinking its a friends ride come to get them and then 15 minutes later my friend comes up telling me some lady had come by asking her a bunch of questions about my boyfriend and stuff. I was really confused and she shows me the papers the lady left. My friends not very bright, bless her soul, so I was concerned what she had told them. I called up the number on the paper, got a hold of the ladies supervisor and he came by. She was in big trouble apparently because they are not allowed to talk to anyone but the residents of the house, especially not a random hungover friend babbling who TOLD the girl she didnt live there. They asked me as much as I could answer and left.

How often are the census', 5 years??

Wifezilla, The Government knows everything about you anyway, so whats the big deal, fill it out. I can look anyone up on the internet and for a fee I can find out where they live and members in their family, nothing is private anymore. It's really not worth losing sleep over, accept it and move on.

If they already know everything then they don't need to waste my time and all those trees to get it repeated, do they?

Not sure, but I know that MN is close to loosing a Representative if our numbers drop. That is my reason for telling everyone I know to fill it out.

"Americans need to stand up to Washington's intrusion into our private lives. What business of government is the number of times a citizen has been married or what he paid for electricity last month? For those who find such intrusion acceptable, I'd ask them whether they'd also find questions of their sex lives or their marriage fidelity equally acceptable.

What to do? Unless a census taker can show me a constitutional requirement, the only information I plan to give are the number and names of the people in my household. The census taker might say, "It's the law." Thomas Jefferson said, "Whensoever the General Government (Washington) assumes undelegated powers, its acts are unauthoritative, void, and of no force."" - Walter Williams

It is in the constitution, I already posted the link. With fines for not filling it out.

The original purpose of the census ( at least the references in my copy of the constitution) was to count the citizens for purposes of establishing representation. I do not recall any reference to documenting ethnicity, ( with the exception of the initial fractional counting of slaves) passing out gov't money to neighborhoods, fixing potholes etc. A previous responder made reference to William the Conqueror's census ie the Doomsday Book, which, in fact, was more like an inventory of wealth ( property, livestock, backyard chickens, etc.) imposed on a conquered nation, then Saxon England. William redistributed the wealth to his loyal Knights, by replacing the Saxons as Earls Dukes and Lords and such. The current census seems to be approaching this theme by documenting finances and probing other sensitive areas. Ok! You may say the gov't already has most of this info in one form or another, sho what is the big deal? The big deal is there is no point to provide a prepackaged dossier on our nations citizens for no constitutional purpose and placing this information ( despite what they say) in a position vulnerable to compromise by hostile entities be they foreign or domestic.

I plan to respond to thecansus questionaire disclosing only that information applicable to constitutional requirements.
