Good Morning everyone! Was gonna let the chickens out this morning but it's too cold for that. Poor things, they want spring as much as the rest of us. So, for now it's computer time

and catch up time by the looks! Everyone have a great Wednesday!!!

Would you believe this is the first year I won't be taking part....

I have had to let my chickens go to a local good home (thanks Adrian) as my health has finally got so bad I could not longer look after them well enough. So, a whole load of reorganising before I foray back into the chicken rearing world. Incubators still in the shed, all wrapped up. So sad.

We are new to raising chickens and are having a pretty good winter, despite the snow and bitter cold temperatures! (-42 wind chill yesterday!!) I am interested in the hatching contest but have no idea where to start and how to do it. Please advise. Thanks!! :)

With only 17 days, i have a bad feeling that as soon as i buy eggs and set them my girls will feel left out and start to lay again.

We'll be trying duck eggs for the first time this year. Count us in!
Same here. I've had plenty of ducks in my life, but never hatched any myself.

So, here's my daily update. Mom woke me up early because we had two birds close to death. These were chickens that are still feathering out, so if the light in the brooder goes out they'll freeze. Well, that's just what happened. Dad is PO'd and thinks I haven't been feeding and watering them. I tried to tell him that you can tell when they haven't had water in days, but he refuses to listen to me. The chicks are fine now, we warmed them up and got them moving around. He mistook the waterer being dry this morning from the light for me not watering them at all.
I normally only have to water them every two days since it's just the two of them. I feed them twice every day. Now he's telling me I can't hatch because he thinks I'm not doing my part. I'm not even hatching for us. Sadly I'm going to have to go behind his back on this one. We're selling the chicks to the feed store. They requested I hatch for them, not the other way around. He thinks he's punishing me for something he thinks I did or did not do and it's just not going to work like that. The sell date is going to come and he'll be mad at me again for not hatching.
I really hate being childish like this, but I know when it comes down to my dad it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission. I love my dad to death, but I'm just going to have to do what I think is right. Sorry for the long rant.

We will miss you this year

I'm glad you found a good local home for your flock so that you may get to visit them. Your health is important!

Add me pls... This will be my first hatch along! My incubator should have room for some more eggs by then ;)

Please, do not post how many eggs you are setting until the "Guess how many eggs will be set" contest is done.  Then we will start tallying how many eggs have been set and start the next contest.

Uh,oh! I don't recall if I am guilty or not. However, if I am, let it be known that any previous number mentioned is invalid. I will be setting a presently undetermined number of BCM, Americauna, and Cream Legbar eggs. Hopefully some Aracauna too, depending on my girls' production at the time of gathering.
