finally caught up...I imagine when this gets going, it is going to be impossible to keep up...I will be waking up to 300 posts unread.

Good luck everyone!
If this is your first hatch..read Sally's helpful hints

Does anyone use a homemade hatcher? I have a Hovabator 1588 as my incubator (which I love), but now have gotten myself into a staggered hatch situation... :\ ... that is soon to get even worse!! I was thinking about trying to make a hatcher rather than buy another incubator....

Sally Sunshine is the person to talk to about this!

I built a cooler bator last July and then ended up building a second one to use as a hatcher. They both worked great and as I started setting more eggs I ended up buying a Sportsman and using my coolerbators just for hatching. Doing it this way keeps my incubator clean and I can do staggered hatches all the time. I did a search on Youtube and THIS GUYS videos do a great job at explaining how to build a coolerbator. One word of caution the hot water tank thermostat that he uses works for a few hatches and then they burn out. I have found the best way to go is spend the extra money and get either a wafer or electronic thermostat (cheap on ebay.) They work much better and last quite a while.

Yawn, Farmer Nancy up since 2:30 am EST and yes we will join in the hatch and have eggs as well if anyone should need. I kinda don't know what I'm going to hatch yet.... I'm thinking of separating our Splash Copper Marans away from the pen they are in and doing a hatch just of them. I'm a little scared though as I have new Splash Copper Marans pullets to put in with them, so I better dedicate a day or maybe three to flock integration. Thinking of putting in some delawares. AND I want to start Olive eggers, so maybe this would be as good as time as any to get on with that task! Always dreaming.....And if, and only if those beautiful sebbies would lay eggs and not be three girls as I suspect. Oh I should have never stumbled on this group....I'm in trouble, now I need to fix up a hatcher that's broken.....

Let's get serious folks. Let's hatch say 20,000 eggs...... or more let's do 1 million just in southeast US.... What did my husband put in the coffee.. I think I'm drinking coffee pot cleaner. It tastes so rough, he reuses coffee grounds in the pot and adds more, I think I'm drinking liquid mildew......ewwwwwwww. LOL See y'all, gotta finish physical therapy, start those farm chores and maybe get to help birth a baby goat! Life is so large on a farm.....

(In my case, maybe I should stop drinking coffee and get to work!) Have a blessed day.

Yeah glad you are joining. I think you should ban him from the coffee pot. LOL

Aoxa..we will be setting eggs together! I hope I have time to make a homemade incubator. I need to sell some chickens. My broody sill has not shown me any of her chicks. I did not hear any peeping today. She is not flat as a pancake so I know she has something under there. I thought I saw some movement under her feathers. It is so blasted cold they are not peeking out yet. It was -7 today. I am a bit worried. This is day two she has not left the nest. I know they usually stay for three days so maybe tomorrow. I have a week left for the silkie eggs. They are moving so strong. I hope it keeps up.
This thread is going to be hard to keep up on.
