So I'm 193 post behind, I'm not trying to catch up as a storm is approaching, I'll have breakfast and go back out to make sure everyone still has feed and water as it is still below zero here. I have been buttoning down what I will be setting, so out of my group, I will have barred rocks, Nice dark Olive eggs, Lavender/OE, Lavender AM's, Belgium d'Uccle Mille Fleur and Mottled. Lavender/barred rock, and I got my hands on so Silkie Feathered Ameraucana and Wheaten Marans. Oh yeah I'm going to hatch out some corturnix quail.
LOL Mich! How is the roo btw? and QUAIL YES!!!
I am afraid you guys are right with my flock not wanting to participate being there only 17 weeks today..... So I went for a walk around our pond and Millie Mallard has decided I should try her egg...

I borrowed a hovobator 1602n from a neighbor and cleaned it, firing it up now. I will need a thermometer since the only one I have is a culinary meat thermometer,

maybe I can stick that through the removable plug.. I have one duck egg going in late and will be hitting up a local person on payday for some of there chicken eggs to through in there also. Its my first time so it will be a learning experience, gonna have to read that sally sunshine hatching 101, I hate technical reads...

LOL the article is supposed to be an easy read even though it is "technical", its ALOT of info but belive it or not, I use/d almost all that info! I tried my best to take clinical studies and my research and put it in "normal terms" so others "get it too!" Ducks are different than chickens though.... there are some good links to cooling and misting under the chart that shows the breeds and incubation periods.
We are going to get 12 inches of snow today..right on top of our last 12 inches..ugh
OMG del! I want to see some pics of the beauty then too!! great opportunity to take fresh snow and critter pics ya know it? well AFTER the shoveling that is

WE gots a pips monday already! 16 in lockdown since Sunday eve NOTE(NOT large fowl)

UPDATE already!!

It still amazes me eveytime I see them hatch!! AND it shows how fast they can zip too! we noticed her 1st pip yesterday just after lunch and its taken this long, sometimes its even longer with Large Fowl! NOTE to BAYM... serama ALWAYS hatch early! dont panic lol

here are some pics before the vid uploads! this is her right before hatch......

"I DID IT! Now sleep!"

this was the first guy who piped yesterday, but not the first to show its feathers!
this girl was and still not out!

Most awesome video, it shows how fast some of them can zip once they start.

NOTES: Zipping is the last stage in hatching! DO NOT get it confused with the external pip! It happens well AFTER the first pip and resting period..... in the case of these eggs, that phase took almost a full day and these are TINY eggs..... so LF can take alot longer!

10 Anconas
9 peeping red stars
8 ameracauna
7 laying polish
6 Swedish flower
FIIIIVVEEEE SILVERRRRR PHEONIXXXX

AND A FEW THOUSAND CHICKEN COOPS

Quote: He is doing much better now, I have him on FF and his comb is finally reddening up. The FF is more work then I thought. The straining is what is so time consuming for me. I'm running two 5 gallon buckets one for chicks and one for adults. I give my adult quail the FF does everyone else? I should have over 50 eggs or so, I've been collecting for about a week and a half and will continue up until their set day.
