Sign me up! I'm only doing 3 dozen, 2 dozen PRs and 1 dozen RIR . Setting them late tomorrow evening, for some reason they always start pipping on the 19th day.

I have the incubator going for 2 days now. I did some tweeking and have it ready for the noon set tomorrow. I will set around 48 eggs. First time with an incubator, hatched a couple with a heating pad probably 40 years ago. The grandkids are excited. HAPPY HATCH

My hatch cam is now LIVE for anyone interested. Two pips so far ^_^ It's the end of day 20/18!

Quote: For those of us that live in climates where the ground freezes, they restrict trucks with weight over a certain amount off the roads because of when the ground starts warming and frost in the ground is disappearing the ground and roads that are on it can move and shift. Lots of weight on those roads can destroy the roads at that time. We still are not at that point in Northern Minnesota, but the date is coming - you can tell by the massive amounts of logging trucks on the road trying to get loads in before they have to sit.

Ok, so I just ran down to our dollar store and picked up a roll of blue shelf liner because I had read that a lot of you use it over the bottom of the hatcher wire to help with clean up and give a non-slip surface for new chicks. My very health minded sister looked at it and said she doesn't think we should use it because she thinks the rubber/plastic will give off toxic smells in a warm/hot incubator!!!

I said I didn't think so, and that a lot of you BYC'ers use it, but it does seem to have a bit of a chemically rubber smell... should I be worried?
I had seen that everyone used it on here so I ran got me some .... I also had that fear .... My eggs are due to hatch in 5 days and the rubber liner actually made funny spots on some of the eggs they are prob harmless but depending on my hatch rate I may wait till just b 4 lock down to put it in next time

I may have to check into these nipples. I used rabbit water bottles with the quail I hatched last time, but they were a couple weeks old before I tried it because I think they would have been to big for the tiny quail. I did have a couple of them that liked to just stand under it to see how fast they could drain it at first. I have a smaller like guinnea pig/bird one but the container to it broke and I can't find a water bottle that will fit it. I may have to try cutting the bottom of a water bottle like you did, only I would probably have to caulk it or something because it has a rubber stopper with a screw on lid. but then again this still may be to big for day old chicks. Can you buy the water nipples someplace like TSC or do you have to order them online? I don't remember seeing them at our farm stores here but I may not have looked very hard.

I bought mine on line, not amazone though. A BYCer used to sell them= greenburg or something like that. DOn't know if he is on anymore. Yes there needs to be a seal, the calking works for a wil, and I have used plumbers tape too. No dry time with the latter.

I only have nipple waterers with PVC watering except 3 places. Those I have on top off wire and they poke through the bottom.Mainly when I do it that way I use bleach bottles and the nipples are at the bottom. I used to use the big buckets from HD and Lowes the same way, but now bucksets are outside the pens and the PVC runs along the wire. Much easier to fill and not get everything wet inside.
Wolf, can you take a picutre?? Angle of the nipple seems to be important to decrease leaking. Or at least that seems to stop some leaking but not effect others IDK.
