Is it too late to enter the hatch-a-long? I set 42 eggs on Sunday, March 10th at 1pm. I really tried to set them on Saturday, the 9th, but I still had eggs hatching in my incubator! :) I'm kinda a newbie to BYC, so let me know if there's any other info you need from me for the Hatch-a- long. P.S. I candled the 42 eggs this past Sunday, the 17th, and it looks like 32 eggs are fertile, and 10 maybe's at this point.

Thanks!

I think so long as you set eggs between March 7th and March 11th that you can participate, at the very least attempt to keep up with the thread lots of fun here along with some good information.

Sorry, no summary from me here... I just can't believe we are HALF WAY THERE!!!

11 days and I will have baby chickens running all over the brooder!!!!

(never mind the pile of egg tidbits in the actual butterfly, those are going to be placed here in a few)

Saw this on FB... Loved it & thought I'd share with my chicken obsessed friends. I have this song stuck in my head now... wrong words & all. LOL
ROFL!! That's so cute!

Well I usually just toss quail eggs in and since I've been doing staggered hatches, I don't have a problem with humidity. I was filling the waterer for some brooder chicks and saw movement in the Sportsman. Have one quail out and very little humidity. I was going to still the rest of the eggs in a LG that a hatch should have happened on Sunday, but I had to add water when I got home yesterday and figured I'd killed my babies, but when I checked I one a bantam Langshun pipping, so no opening that bator. The other needs cleaned out, so I'm just going to see if more quail hatch in the Sportsman as is. This little guy seems fine, so I'm not going to fix it if it ain't broke!

Before I left I had FBCMs and Lt Sussex hatch. One of the Sussex was mushy. Never seen one of those before. It also had a splayed leg and I lost that one, but out ot the other 2 I think just by the way they are feathering out, that I have a pair. YAY! I lost my rooster a couple of weeks ago, so hopefully one of these is a crower. I know that sounds strange to some, but not to me. hehe Hoping more pi with this current hatch. I have a couple more Sussex in there and I'd like to add to my pen later. Trying to hatch everything I can from these eggs until I see no more fertility.

Now I think I'll go candle the eggs for this hatch. I've had a couple of breeds with no fertility and was going to trim vents, but if these are clear, I'll be looking on youtube, to watch som AI videos. I just hate trimming my pretty girls. After candling, I'm going to go list all the eggs from Sunday through today for sale from the breeds that I know for sure are fertile. So many eggs and so few (can't belive I can even say that) incubators. No room at the inn for all these eggs.

I forgot to sign up but remembered what day to start LOL
I set 53 eggs and so far all are doing well

Aww..so sorry about the eggs. Seriously, if your friend wants chicks for Easter morning, let me know, she can have some of my extras. Even if she wants some of my older chicks in the brooder. Anything to help enable a new chicken lover.

I'll see how these ones do. If they quit on me before lockdown, I might take you up on that!! My little Spitzhauben crosses from you are sure growing! None of them ended up frizzled, but they are really pretty anyway. I still have them in the brooder box in my kennel building, but they don't stay in the box very much. Darn things are all over my kennel building, pooping on everything! My daughter found one IN the feedbag the other day!! I need all of this snow to go away so I can set my meaty coop up as a temporary coop to put the NYD chicks in, the I can move these guys to the big pen out in the barn... I can't even get to the meaty coop with all the snow! I love Northern MN, and I love the snow, but I'm over it now... Ready for spring! I do like seeing them when I go out to do chores in the morning. They are all lined up on the edge of the brooder box just waiting for me to feed them...

When you removed it, did you leave another light on 24/7 or reduce it to daylight hours? Thanks for answering all my questions
We turned on the lights in the basement to make it 16 hrs of "daylight". We then turned them off at night. We tried to simulate the natural day as best as possible. I must have done something right, cuz I have 2 girls sitting
