the hatchery doesn't breed penedesencas but they do have cream legbars- though i am still voting on rhodebars because they look so close or bielefelder, since that's what they said they were when i sent them the picture. guess we will find out when they grow up lol

So out of curiosity, what were you supposed to get?

Sally.................something for you to look forward to.............................my Cream Legbar eggs. The picture does not do them justice, but it's the best I could do. She laid about 2 pullet sized eggs, then went to large sized eggs.
This only makes me hope more that the three eggs in my incubator are two hens and a roo! Here's to crossed fingers!

this just popped up on my facebook- couldn't help but share:

Hilarious!

Evening All,
I just saw this thread. Well after reading everything about dry hatching we did it. My DH;s co-worker gave him 18 fertilized eggs from different breeds of chicken. I know 3 of them are most likely Amerecauna type because of the green egg shell. My DH has been busy for about a month or two. He built a incubator out of our old 20 year old Coleman 54 cooler. Our broody black Cochin bantam- licorice was given 4 of the eggs on March 9 @ 4:43 pm PST. This will be her second hatch. She is a great mama. We gave her 4 because the eggs are from larger breed of hens and we wanted him to have a few hatched egg if the incubator didn't work out well. Well I am keeping notes and we put the other 14 egg in the incubator @10:15 pm PST. The incubator can only hold 15 larger eggs, ex. RIR, Redstar or Buff Orpington. This has been interesting. We candled them yesterday, even the 4 under Licorice and all of them had little embryos moving around. We only had 1 dud. I'm just not sure about veins, and no movement. I just can't wait for them to hatch!

Goodness! Impressive and good luck! Someone's still up. It's about 1:45am here. I'm waiting on 2 chicks that hatched about an hour or so ago to dry and fluff up, then out of the 'bator, into the brooder, and finally, me into the bed with DH for a little rest. I'm new at this 'bating and they started at 10:00 am central time, sooo, I'm whipped. So far, 5 hatched in a staggered batch. Welcome!
