WOOH I had my first fertile banty egg today and I think it was from one of the silkies! My banty roo is a silkie so I can't wait to hatch some of them out :D

Cool stuff Ron! This is a great thread! If I didn't mention that already!

Well guys/gals here is a couple pics of my broody. I put some EE eggs under her.
she is very timid around me so I was able to lift her for a sec to get a pic of the eggs as well.
My son tried first but she went crazy on him and bit the crap out of him almost drawing blood.
I just had to laugh at him. I told him he doesn't care for them so they don't know him and
find him a threat.

A few years ago I had a silkie roo. Although he was the only banty I had with 20 standard hens and roo he managed to get every single hen. I found this out while incubating around 30 standard hen eggs. Lets just say that 22 of the 24 eggs that hatched all had 5 toes!

LOL! I haven't seen this guy successfully mate yet, but I guess he has wooed one of the silkies. He's been working on his "flirting skills" for awhile now and I finally saw him on top of one of the girls even though he fell off.

I'm hoping he has mated with all of them by the swap because that would make some very interesting banty babies!

Our first rooster was an Old English Black Breasted Red banty and the hens we had were BSL, very large BSLs. My oldest son was very excited at the prospect of having chicks from his hen, Coco. He asked me when we could hatch some of Coco's egg and I tried to explain to him why it was unlikely. I told him several times that it just wouldn't work. Rudy was just too little, but he kept asking why. Finally I said, "Son, look at Rudy, then look at Coco. Think about it for awhile and see if you can't figure it out." The next morning, bright and early, I heard my boy outside my bedroom window, laughing. He laughed out loud, good, strong, belly laughs and I heard him start around to the back porch. He came through the back door, still giggling, and into my bedroom. He said, "Momma, I figured out why it won't work, Rudy jumped on Coco's back, bit her on the back of the neck, then slid off the back! HIS NECK IS TOO SHORT!"

If I'm lucky I'll get to join. The hens are picking up on their laying and we may be selling our game birds. Dad is tired of raising them because he makes so little off of selling them.
