I just spent almost a week in rehab with "bubba" black cochin who turns out to be a girl too, if you remember I posted here when we first started, I cant tell her from the rest now!
Blarney showed me a great way to give therapy to a chick, if you have a tea cup that slowly tapers in the bottom you can put her in it to force her legs underneath her, just don't over or under heat her.

I will post the pics when I find them.... for now here are some links that helped me too, they are always found in the article https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101

CHICKEN ORTHOPEDICS ~

Okay... I'm thinking it may be too late for it. I don't have any vitamins tonight, and there's NOWHERE to get them. :( Something I'll have to have on hand next time...

I did try the sugar water thing. It seemed to perk up and try to sit up for about 5 minutes, then it was right back down, panting and not caring that the others were stomping on it... :(

I'll try the teacup thing..
I've read through that assist article. I waited too late on one. Tried to help out a Wyandotte that pipped internally today, only to find it had died sometime between this morning and about 20 min ago... I can't see an internal pip on the Silkie, so I'm afraid to try. I'm also afraid to wait too long like I did with the Wyandotte... :( That's the egg my kiddo cares the most about, and I'm afraid of killing it by assisting... help! I can see it breathing when I candle, but I can't see anything other than the big air sack... I don't know what part of the chick is where...

I expected my first chick for the Easter hatch to be an Icelandic but was't expecting it out today!! First one out and drying off already!! I'm thinking that egg must have had a little extra loving at the barn for a day... LOL

We got some other new babies today too..

Cute little piggies!

So, I'm 1/2 into lockdown as of today.

Because my EE's seem to already be getting crowded in their small apartments... (hardly any space left), I decided to lock them down today (day 17), rather than tomorrow. I took them out of their stand up cups, candled them, marked the aircells once last time and laid them on their sides in the best position for hatching. I'm hoping it will give the squished kiddos another day to get into position... & hopefully they do it sooner rather than later. I hope they don't get so cramped in there that they can't move.

I haven't increased the humidity yet, I would like give the barred rock eggs more time to increase their air sack size better. So, I haven't put the barred rock eggs into lockdown yet. I'll continue to hand turn those ones (spin at an angle now? lol) for the next day with them standing up in their little cups. Tomorrow I'll candle them all 1 last time, mark their air cells, and then lay them down in the incubator, and add more water. The one BR egg that I checked this morning looked right on schedule. The BR eggs are bigger and the chicks look like they will have just the right amount of space/development by Saturday.

I REALLY want the EEs to hatch! Well, I want the BR eggs too... but I REALLY want the EEs.

The last few days are the hardest!

I got an egg from a pullet yesterday and today. They are the small ones. She has her big girl training wheels on:)
More eggs is always a good thing.
I have a Question ya all remember when i bought my Dirty turkey eggs ? well many where broken and some Cracked the box was in amazing shape .
But the eggs where Dirty the seller came from BYC and ABC she claims she hatched Dirty filthy eggs all the time this is HER Photo of Proof .
she wants me to Pay shipping again and to be honest im scared of what i might get .

HER PHOTO OF PROOF THEY HATCH

I'm not familiar with Turkey laying habits, but if their weather conditions are super muddy, I can see eggs being dirty. I will admit though, I've never seen eggs that dirty.

Of course the Icelandic is out first! Those piggies look big. Congrats on both!

Okay... Read the assist article again.... I can see movement in the egg, so I put it back in.... How do I know if she's malpositioned or just needs more time? I wouldn't be as worried if the silkie wasn't our favorite and only silkie egg

If you set eggs on the 9th, Tomorrow is Lockdown!

Since I cheated and set a day early, I'll be locking down today. My kids think I was a nice mommy buying them a big carton of strawberries at the store yesterday. They don't know I wanted the container to hatch in.

Now I gotta empty it out.

I haven't caught up yet, but in case you haven't..I would love to see how you have your eggs set in the carton. I may try it out! I think we can eat a few strawberries around here. :D

I had to go get baby vitamins last night for one of my chicks. I've also got some of the Sav-a-chick vit's from the feed store. I wish I was close to you. I'd love to give you some

Yup!

I have, but it was a chicken egg that came from a new layer. The run was pretty muddy. I don't try to hatch those, though, because I worry they've soaked up too much water.
